Mixed alkyl-alkylaryl-phenyl phosphite polymer additive
Phosphites may have estrogenic activity.  Jakupca et al of Dover Chemical. Ohio,formed a new stabilizer by adding a phosphite reaction product of a triphenyl phosphite or lower molecular weight trialkyl phosphite (e.g., trimethyl phosphite) or triaryl phosphite, with 1 to 2 moles of preferably a paracumyl phenol, and 1 to 2 moles of at least C12-20 carbon alkyl or C12-20 alkenyl alcohol without estrogenic activity.  (RDC 9/19/2012)

Polymers with low gel content and enhanced gas-fading
Zahalka of Chemtura Corporation, Connecticut, developed a polymer stabilizing composition consisting of a sterically hindered phenol and a phosphite that provides low gel content and enhanced resistance to gas-fading. The stabilizer composition is particular useful for stabilizing polyethylene homopolymers and copolymers, such as linear low density polyethylenes produced from metallocene catalyst. The sterically hindered phenol is, for example, selected from the group consisting of 1,3,5-tris-(4-tert-butyl-3-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylbenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-dicyclohexyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)isocyanurate, 1,3,5-tris(4-t-butyl-3-hydroxy-2,6-dimethylbenzyl)-1,3,5-Triazine-2,4,6-(- 1H,3H,5H)-trione, and 1,3,5-tris-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene. Gelbi, Power and Hill of Chemtura Corporation, Connecticut, developed a composition of at least two different alkylaryl phosphites, where some alkyl groups have a different number of carbon atoms than other alkyl groups and wherein the composition is a liquid at ambient conditions.
