Bioabsorbable plug
 
Fortson of Abbott Cardiovascular Systems, Inc., California, developed a device for closing an opening in tissue. The device consists of a port including a restriction zone and a storage region. The device further includes a blocking element that is configured to move between a neutral position, located in the storage region of the port, and a blocking position, located in the restriction zone of the port.  It also includes a bioabsorbable plug such as collagen, polycaprolactone (PCL), poly-D,L-lactic acid, Poly-L-lactic acid, poly(lactide-co-glycolide), poly(hydroxybutyrate), polyanhydrides or  poly(glycolic acid)  (RDC 12/5/2012)
