Silver-based inorganic antimicrobial agent and method for preparing the same
 
Sugiura of Toagosei Co., Ltd., Japan, developed a powder of a silver-based inorganic antimicrobial agent with superior dispersability or water permeability, composed of silver-supporting hexagonal zirconium phosphate, and an antimicrobial product and a water processing material using the silver-based inorganic antimicrobial agent powder.  The silver-based inorganic antimicrobial agent containing hexagonal zirconium phosphate crystals, which has a particle size distribution to enable easy handling as a powder and contribute to exhibition of antimicrobial properties, can be prepared by a preparation method including wet-heating zirconium carbonate.  When the silver-based inorganic antimicrobial agent wherein particles with a size of 10 .mu.m to 100 .mu.m are 90% or more on a volume basis is kneaded into resin products, since aggregation or the like may not occur and the silver-based inorganic antimicrobial agent can be easily exposed on the surface of molded articles, antimicrobial effects are thus readily exhibited on the surface. Material compositions for microbial and chemical protection
 
Sarangapani of ICET, Inc., Massachusetts, developed an antimicrobial and chemical deactivating composition for use in a liquid medium or for incorporation into a coating, structural plastic materials, thin microporous membranes, textiles and sponges. The composition includes macrosize or submicron particles of silver, platinum with silver and their salts with parabens, oxide, salicylate, acetate, citrate, benzoate and phosphate along with copper and zinc salts of the same.  (RDC 6/19/2012)

Burton and Holm of 3M, Minneasota, developed a silver composition comprising silver sulfate, methods of making antimicrobial articles, particularly packaged antimicrobial articles, methods of whitening antimicrobial articles, and packaged antimicrobial articles. (RDC 6/19/2012)
