I have been working on Vibration Welding
at the Institute of Polymer Technology,
University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany,
as a scientific engineer since 1995.
Up to now, Prof. Ehrenstein (head of the institute)
and I have published almost 20 articles
or presentations concerning welding of
plastics. As you can see from our
conventional web pages

we have focused our
work on the fundamental relationship
between process course, weld seam
structure and joint properties for linear
and biaxial (orbital) amplitudes.
Based on these results,
it was possible to develop a
neural-network-based
system for on-line quality assurance,
that enables a classification of welds
only by analyzing the process.
We could even prove the reliability
of this innovative system by tests,
we did in co-operation with sub-suppliers
in automotive industry. Details are

although the results shown there have
been improved significantly (but not
updated yet) over the last year.
